Small victories

So I went along to the ABC forum this morning. Predictably Maurice Foley stole the show by calling everyone wankers. I only got one question in, so I decided to ask the other candidates to commit to immediate statehood with equal senate representation. They all went on the record in support.

However the fight is not over: just because the local candidate promises a thing, don’t expect it to get past the faceless powerbrokers in Canberra. David already learnt that the hard way about the nuclear waste dump. The best chance for statehood would come from a balance-of-power Parliamentarian who was not beholden to machine-men. I am that candidate.

Also, my disagreement with the ABC’s decision not to include myself and other minor candidates got a run in the NT News today. Funnily enough the ABC discovered that they might do a forum just for us after all.

I am ambivalent about that, actually. On the one hand any publicity is good publicity. On the other hand, Maurice Foley will probably yell and call people wankers all over again. That’s just great for Maurice, but it shafts me because I take this seriously and I can’t cut through when people are throwing easy-to-report tanties.

Tomorrow I will get 2 minutes on Territory FM at 10.20am, and remember that tonight I will be the Australian Christian Lobby’s forum at Mal Nairn auditorium, starting at 7pm.
