All over red rover.

Thank goodness the election is over.
With 73.32% of the Solomon votes counted I earned 249 primary votes overall. Most of what’s left to count is postal votes, a lot of that from soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Thus the final outcome in Solomon remains hanging in the balance.
I did not beat Maurice Foley, which [...]

Election Day - At Last!

Today you get to decide who will represent you in Solomon for the next three years. If you feel as I do that you pay too much tax, are over-regulated, over-governed and struggling because of it, then vote 1 LDP. Put 1 in the box next to my name.
And there it is: my final pitch. [...]

The Minimum Wage

Being a fairly egotistic sort I frequently check my statistics page to see who is linking to me. Today I was linked from a discussion forum — a discussion thread entitled “WARNING dangerous moron in NT”. I disagree with “moron”, but in fairness politicians can be pretty dangerous when they decide they know best. The [...]

In brief

Yesterday I was on ABC radio with Maurice Foley. The ABC posted a story on their site pointing out some of my comments about the 30/30 plan, including the need to reduce or abolish the minimum wage.
I’d like to talk about this a bit more, because people tend to be pretty dark on the idea, [...]

ACL forum report

Last night I went along to the forum organised by the Australian Christian Lobby. I’ve already talked about some of the questions here on the site a bit, so I will try to focus more on the evening itself.
There was a great turnout — Mal Nairn auditorium was almost full, which is unusual for Mal [...]

Small victories

So I went along to the ABC forum this morning. Predictably Maurice Foley stole the show by calling everyone wankers. I only got one question in, so I decided to ask the other candidates to commit to immediate statehood with equal senate representation. They all went on the record in support.
However the fight is not [...]

A plethora of fora

I learned this morning that the ABC are holding a forum tomorrow at Brown’s Mart from 11am. I wasn’t invited. I can understand David Tollner and Damien Hale getting the nod, but I felt it was a bit prescriptive to decide that the Greens are credible alternative and that I am not.
I put my views [...]

My final bit for the Darwin & Palmerston Sun before Saturday

Andrew Dittmer from the Darwin & Palmerston Sun has been very helpful in rounding up candidate statements to print during the campaign. There is one more edition to go out before Saturday. Here’s what I sent him today.
I want to get politics out of your life.
The best way to do that is for governments to [...]

Immediate, Equal Statehood.

The Northern Territory is a curious legacy of Federation. South Australia was burdened with debts during the late 1890s, and through a clever program of negotiation managed to foist them onto the Commonwealth along with the NT. In a universe where the NT had turned a profit for South Australia, we in Darwin would be [...]

It’s time to ask for help.

I need volunteers to operate booths on election day.
For every 4 volunteers I have, I can set up at another booth. Booth volunteers are the unsung heroes of democracy in Australia.
My experience as a boother means I am prepared to take good care of my volunteers. I will supply a T-shirt, drinks and some lunch [...]
